We are all saddened by today’s sudden death of Rabbi Harold White, who served as the Senior Jewish Chaplain at Georgetown University's Campus Ministry for forty years until his retirement in 2009. He was the first full-time Jewish chaplain at a Catholic university. He knew Jan Karski personally, had a deep respect for him and was an avid advocate of his legacy.

Upon hearing the sad news, Andrzej Rojek, Chairman of the Jan Karski Educational Foundation said: “Rabbi Harold White opened his mind to building better relationships between Christians and Jews and he uniquely understood the issues facing these relationships in Poland. He was the first to help and advise, not counting hours and dollars, but truly serving the mission. He was always available for us whether to speak at a conference, consult on a movie, organize a trip to Poland or travel far to participate in a panel discussion. During his two trips to Poland, he earned almost a cult following, yet remained modest and very respectful to everything he saw and everyone he met. We shall miss him immensely.”

Rabbi White's obituary from the Washington Post mentioned his long service to Georgetown.
