The graphic novel Karski’s Mission: To Stop the Holocaust, published by the Jan Karski Educational Foundation in 2015, is being read by students at all levels, most recently by 6th-grade students at the Charles S. Rushe Middle School in Land O’ Lakes, FL. Their Gifted History class teacher, Tina Fields, became interested in the Karski story when attending the Foundation’s presentation at the Florida Council for the Social Studies Conference in Orlando last year and received a free class set as a gift from JKEF.
The students liked the comic book style format for the book and were surprised to learn about Karski and his incredible mission. Quinn, one of the school’s gifted students, said, “I haven’t heard of [Karski] before. It sounds like a made-up story because we should know about this.”
We encourage other teachers to include this still little-known but important and relevant story in their classrooms. Please click here to learn more about the Karski graphic novel.
