The 99th Birthday of Jan Karski Commemorated

In commemoration of what would have been Jan Karski’s 99th birthday, a wreath laying and prayers were recited at his grave at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  Representatives from the Polish Embassy, the Jan Karski Institute for Tolerance and Dialogue, the Kosciuszko Foundation, and the Jan Karski Educational Foundation, as well as private individuals, attended.

A Polish priest who is staying in Washington read prayers in Polish, and Kaya Ploss, a close friend of Karski’s, spoke about the decision to bury him at this prominent Catholic cemetery. Karski had bought the plot some years before his death in order to be close to his wife’s and brother Marian Kozielewski’s graves. Marian was by all accounts Karski’s closest sibling.
