Foundation president Wanda Urbanska and Advisory Board member Cheryl Fishbein represented the Jan Karski Educational Foundation at the recent American Jewish Committee (AJC) Global Forum held the week of May 12 in Washington DC.

The Forum is a major, multi-day platform for global leaders including foreign ministers, Members of Congress and other leading politicians, thinkers and activists. The Forum also serves as a networking event for students, leaders, AJC staffers, board members and stakeholders from around the country and world.

Advocacy in Action dinners were held by numerous embassies, including the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in America, which hosted a gourmet buffet feast for 25 guests, many of whom had visited Poland through AJC programs. Deputy Chief of Mission of the Polish Embassy in the United States Minister-Counselor Maciej Pisarski briefed the guests on issues concerning his nation over dinner.

This year's Global Forum -- the largest ever with an estimated 2,000 attendees at the Grand Hyatt Hotel -- was host to a multitude of celebrated speakers over the course of three days including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; Arizona Senator John McCain; Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird; and French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius. Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk delivered an urgent video appeal at the closing plenary urging the world not to sit idly by as his country struggles to establish its sovereignty.

AJC executive director David Harris took the stage to give the "final word" at the closing plenary, informing attendees about significant developments and commitments, including AJC's decision to send a key staffer to Kiev, Ukraine to stand with the Ukrainian people, including its 300,000 Jewish citizens, during this time of military crisis.  David Harris also serves on the Advisory Board of the Jan Karski Educational Foundation.

AJC's mission is to enhance the well-being of the Jewish people and Israel, and to advance human rights and democratic values in the United States and around the world.
