Pianist Katarzyna Musiał Pianist Katarzyna Musiał

The Jan Karski Educational Foundation Reception on November 19, 2013 will feature live music of Frederick Chopin performed by Katarzyna Musiał, who is regarded as “a major talent, blessed with an astounding technique and an interpretive panache” (Chicago Classical Review).

Katarzyna Musiał is a Polish-Canadian concert pianist, winner of the First Prize at the 2011 Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition (New York); Ms. Musiał was also a prize winner at the Krzysztof Penderecki International Competition of Contemporary Chamber Music (Cracow) and the Kay Meek Competition (Vancouver), as well as a recipient of the Alban Berg Prize for outstanding merit (Vienna) and the Philip Cohen Award for outstanding performance musicianship (Montreal). Her new CD with Meridian Records label will be launched in autumn of this year.

She has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Recent highlights include a Carnegie Hall debut, performances at the Vancouver Olympic Games, and International Beethoven Festival (Chicago). She has been a featured artist on radio broadcasts in Canada and the United States. Ms. Musial enchants audiences with her repertoire that showcases many different styles which span from baroque to modern. The New York Concert Review once described her interpretations a plumbing “emotional depths with harmonic coloring.”

Frederick Chopin (1810-1849), a Polish composer of the Romantic Era, is best known for his emotionally charged piano miniatures, with beautiful melodies and sophisticated harmonies. Technically challenging, they constitute the core of the repertoire of any distinguished pianist. His mazurkas, scherzos, nocturnes, ballades and polonaises were often inspired by Polish folk tunes and are considered inherently Polish in spirit, but at the same time, are appreciated and enjoyed worldwide. Chopin’s music transcends any borders and divisions revealing the universality and magnitude of its appeal.
