On December 7, Jan Karski was posthumously promoted to the rank of general by the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda. During the ceremony, president Duda said that Karski “was a great soldier of the Republic of Poland…who devoted his whole young life to fighting for Poland's freedom and for human dignity… Let the memory of Jan Karski, of his heroism, perseverance and his deeds be always present among Poles, Jews around the world, and all the righteous.”

The promotion was based on the fact that Karski was awarded Poland's Virtuti Militari medal in 1941 and 1943, which recognized his courage as a member of the Polish Resistance during World War II.

The Jan Karski Educational Foundation was represented at the event by Ewa Junczyk-Ziomecka, President of the sister foundation in Poland, Fundacja Edukacyjna Jana Karskiego, and Ewa Wierzyńska, a member of JKEF Board of Directors.
