Italian Conference Provides Insights about Karski

International acclaim to Jan Karski continues to grow, as seen by an event in Milan on May 12, 2013. "Jan Karski. Una missione per l'umanità" was the title of the academic session organized by the Consulate of the Polish Republic in cooperation with the Milan University departments of history and of literature.  Italian researchers presented papers about the concept of genocide based on the documentation of Jan Karski and the writings of Rafael Lemkin (Marcello Flores d’Arcais) and the story of Jan Karski in literature and historical sources (Luca Bernardini).

The session also included a roundtable about the first Italian edition of the “Story of a Secret State,” which hit the Italian bookstands in May as well as  the inauguration of the exhibition about Jan Karski produced by the Polish History Museum in cooperation with the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Scholars delivered many interesting insights about the Karski story. A tour of the exhibit for the participants was led by Ewa Wierzynska of the Polish History Museum. Milan is also the home of the Garden of the Righteous (GARIWO) project where a tree for Jan Karski was planted in 2011.   More on (in Polish) http://www.msz.gov.pl/pl/p/mediolan_it_k_pl/
