While there are many good causes that cry out for support, we at the Jan Karski US Centennial Campaign believe ours is an important one -- long overdue -- and worthy of your contribution. First, we seek to honor the late professor Jan Karski and recognize him for his courageous mission and many accomplishments. At the same time, we want Americans to learn about Poland's heroic and horrifically complex role during World War II. Few Americans have any knowledge about the Polish Underground, for instance, which was the first and most significant resistance movement in occupied Europe and which Karski represented when he transmitted information about the Holocaust to Western allies. With Poland's emerging role as a leader in Europe and worldwide, we believe this initiative is more timely than ever.
Most significantly, your contribution will be used to educate Americans -- especially students -- about Karski and about Poland. We're working to introduce the late professor's work and legacy into middle, high school and college curriculums; we are developing an essay contest for high school juniors with college scholarships which will encourage students to discover Karski and much more. Please support this important, paradigm-changing work. It's high time that Americans realize that Poles such as Jan Karski symbolize the best of humanity, and are people to be admired, respected and emulated.
